Versatility - Indoors or Outdoors

Skagerak teak and white painted furniture and accessores are made for either indoor or outdoor use.

Wood is a natural fiber and should be properly maintained for maximum life and beauty.  We recommend that you do not expose your Skagerak furniture to extreme cold during winter.

Teak Wood - Naturally Beautiful

Teak is a hardwood that contains natural oil, which makes it resistant to moisture and the drying effects of exposure to the elements. Teak is the perfect wood for outdoor furniture, and is increasingly popular indoors because of its natural beauty. Teak is also used for ship building (especially decks), indoor or outdoor furniture, high-class joinery, flooring, paneling, plywood and decorative veneers.

Teak is kiln dried for three to four weeks. This dries the teak to the optimum humidity and helps eliminate cracks.

Teak is generally straight grained with a medium luster and an oily feel. It has a yellow brown to dark golden brown appearance when new and grayish or white look as it ages.

Care of Teak

This teak product is untreated. If you wish to preserve or highlight the natural color of the teak, treat it with oil. The oil treatment should be repeated at regular intervals as needed.

Some people treat teak with varnish to protect its natural color. This is often done in the cabins of sailboats.

For regular cleaning use natural soap that both cleans the teak and adds a protective layer of soap. Natural soap can be used on untreated and oiled surfaces alike. A wood cleaner can also be used. Re-treat the teak with oil after using a wood cleaner.

Earth Friendly

In purchasing your Skagerak teak furniture or other Skagerak furniture or decor, you can rest assured, knowing that Skagerak takes a lead in environmental protection. At a time when many teak furniture manufacturers look for ways to circumvent environmental protection, Skagerak is internationally recognized for its strong commitment to teak conservation and broader environmental protection.

For years, Skagerak has been working to protect the environment internally as well as externally. Their environmental policy is that they continuously reduce the environmental impact from production, use and disposal of the products they manufacture, using appropriate technologies. Skagerak observes relevant environmental legislation and has signed the environmental charter of the International Chamber of Commerce, ICC and commits itself to come up to its principles for sustainable progress. The employees at Skagerak contribute to the environmental work.

Skagerak lives up to its environmental policy through the following environmental objectives:

  • Continuous improvement of Skagerak products to minimize any negative effect on people and the environment
  • Using wood products that is legally cut and purchased, and encouraging their suppliers to commit to environmental standards
  • Reducing energy consumption
  • Improving the sorting of waste and reducing waste quantity
  • Educating employees regarding environmental objectives

Skagerak - Superior Design

Skagerak is a 100% Danish owned company founded in 1976 with headquarters in Hadsund. Skagerak's reputation as a premier designer and manufacturer of fine teak furniture is unsurpassed. Skagerak furniture and accessories are sold through dealers throughout Europe and recently have become available in America.

Skagerak develops, markets and sells quality products for the use in private homes - outdoor as well as indoor. Skagerak's products primarily appeal to consumers who value high quality, design and originality, when they buy durable consumer goods.

Skagerak ensures that the teak they use comes from trees between 30 and 50 years old. The wood from teak trees younger than 20 years old does not yet contain the important oil that makes teak ideal for outdoor furniture. In additional, Skagerak grows its teak in plantations so that forests are not destroyed. Skagerak teak is kiln dried for three to four weeks. This dries the wood to the optimum humidity and helps eliminate cracks.
